Paul Wilson Goss: Experienced Professional Photographer

Paul Wilson GossPaul Wilson Goss is a professional photographer who runs his own business under the flag of Paul Wilson Goss Photography. Though Paul’s still life work and landscape shots have won him awards, his interest lies primarily in portrait work. He enjoys photographing families, babies, engaged couples, musical groups, and high school seniors posing for their senior portraits. Paul strives to reflect his subject’s personality in each of the shots he captures.

In addition to running his own photography business, Paul has spent time as the primary photographer for a local modeling agency. This experience got him comfortable with coaching his subjects. He directs them on how to position their bodies and faces to create the most beautiful and natural-looking shots. Paul is able to translate this skill into all of his sessions, which allows him to guide even amateur posers to captivating pictures.

Prior to opening his own business, Paul worked as a photographer for an area studio. This experience helped him get faster at capturing shots, since he was often working with busy families or young children who were resistant to sitting still for long photo sessions. Paul’s ability to quickly capture beautiful pictures earned him the admiration of his bosses. He quickly became one of the most popular photographers on staff.  Part of Paul’s success in his career was due in part to his high school job where he worked at a similar studio. He learned the ins and outs of photographing a variety of subjects, and was able to translate this experience to his first full-time job.

An early start

While some children dream of someday becoming a firefighter, professional athlete, or astronaut, Paul’s childhood dreams always revolved around photography. His love began when he received a Polaroid camera on his eighth birthday. He took the device with him everywhere he went, photographing anyone and everyone who would pose. His bedroom was filled with snapshots of his siblings, parents, neighbors, and pets. He would often go for walks around his neighborhood capturing shots of trees, rocks, and plants.

Paul eagerly anticipated the day he could enroll in a photography class in middle school. He looked forward to the class and absorbed all of the information intently. He took notes on lighting, film developing techniques, and capturing action shots. Paul’s work in class won him prizes in various competitions and earned him praise from his teachers and parents.

In high school, Paul continued to take classes in photography as he worked to improve his skills. He spent many hours after school reviewing his work with his beloved instructor. Though hearing criticism was hard at first, he appreciated having the ability to become a better photographer. His goal was to work professionally in the field, and he knew these criticisms would only push him closer to that goal as his abilities improved.

Hours of work pay off

Paul’s dedication and love of the art form led him to get an acceptance letter from the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Paul arrived in The Big Apple feeling full of excitement. He took advantage of his new surroundings and frequently photographed popular landmarks including the Empire State Building and Central Park. The school’s professors had years of experience in the field and were able to push Paul as a photographer. They encouraged him to approach the craft in new and different ways, and helped him to create a diverse portfolio. This body of work caught the attention of employers when Paul was still a student.

Paul Wilson Goss spent time in London as part of New York University’s Study Abroad program as an undergraduate. During this time, his skills reached new heights as he experienced a new culture and way of viewing the world. He frequently roamed London with his camera, capturing beautiful images to add to his portfolio. These shots ended up becoming some of his most powerful.

Paul Wilson Goss: Photographer and Studio Owner

Today, Paul Wilson Goss uses the techniques he’s learned through his years of training to capture unique and beautiful work. He believes in the importance of reflecting a subject’s true personality and places a high value on candid photographs. He built his studio to encourage his clients to feel comfortable. The space includes comfortable couches where clients can leaf through books of Paul’s past work, a refrigerator full of food and beverages, and a box of props to make the pictures from the shoot as exciting and interesting as possible.

Though Paul often photographs spreads for the local newspaper, his main area of focus is portrait work. Here is some of the work he does most commonly:

  • Birth announcements: Paul captures beautiful photographs of a family’s bundle of joy for new parents looking to send out birth announcements to family and friends.
  • Family portraits: These photos are a way to create priceless family memories that are cherished as children grow up and create families of their own. Paul photographs families of various sizes, and can accommodate large groups of extended family members too.
  • Engagement photos: These sessions capture a young couple’s excitement and can get turned into “Save the Date” cards or used for thank you notes.
  • Senior portraits: Paul frequently photographs high school seniors for their high school yearbooks. Though many school yearbooks have requirements about how these photos should look, Paul is able to incorporate the student’s personality into the shot. These pictures become valuable keepsakes for family and friends.
  • Promotional pictures for musical groups: Paul frequently photographs bands for album covers, fliers, and other promotional materials. These shoots are often done in his studio, but are sometimes shot in other locations depending on the group’s preference.

Paul Wilson Goss is a professional photographer with years of experience. He was educated at New York University’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts.
